Kal Nekare Tomek

07 April 2012 - 11:59 AM

Do you solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that the information you shall give shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

..What? Er, I guess. I was not aware this conversation was going down on testimony, but, I do not lie, so that is okay.

Name, sex, birthdate, age, and place of birth, please.

Everything should already be on record already, but if you insist - Kal Tomek; Male; 21st of November, 1963; 21 years of age; Chennai, India.

What is your life story?

Are you serious? That's certainly quite the ask. Would you prefer the abridged version or the whole thing?

..Hello? ..No preference? Okay then, abridged version it is.

Like I said, I was born in Chennai, India. I am of mixed lineage, and I am the eldest of my parent's two children - I have a younger sister. My family and I moved to Singapore when I was four years old, then to Australia when I was six years old (which is where I attended primary school), then to Cardiff in Wales when I was twelve years old (which is where I attended highschool), afterwhich, I came to London to study Human Biology and Medicines at the University of London. My parents travelled around a bit for work related reasons.

I've always been a hard worker - I've always studied hard and got good grades, and I've been working throughout my studies to support myself. I completed my study course last year and have been working full-time the past year, planning to advance my qualification once I've earned enough to pay for it.

That's basically the abridged version of my life story. Though, like I said, it should be all on file, and I'm not entirely sure why you're all that interested in it.

What skills do you possess, excluding your powers?

Are you trying to offer me a job or something? Wait... Excluding my powers? Uh.. Righto then... Well, I suppose...

I am multilingual (speaking several languages fluently); I'm.. a fairly decent cook, and have worked as a chef on occasion; I'm good with computers, electronic hardware and that sort of thing; I've got a fairly good understanding of human biology and medicines; I'm fairly good on a piano and drum kit - Though this was for my schooling, and I have not had any employment in that field; I.. Uh.. I can drive a car and I'm a fairly good ally to have at trivia nights?

This is a hard question, because, you still haven't told me exactly what it is you're looking for here.

I certainly don't have any political power, if that's what you mean. That something MI5 is interested in, isn't it..?

What powers do you possess?

(( Red knows what my character's powers are, but, it's late, and I need sleep. Also, still working out how to word this bit. ))

What is your "superhero" identity?

"Superhero identity"? Is that some sort of British drug slang? No sir, I don't do things like that - I am not engaged in anything illegal. And, if you're looking for a real "superhero identity", find yourself a hollywood movie star; I don't want to end up in a mental asylum, and besides - I don't think I'd look very good in spandex. I'm just plain old ordinary Kal.

English Pronunciation

05 January 2012 - 12:24 AM

A little something I found earlier today that I thought you guys might get a kick out of. XD

Source: http://www.thepoke.c...-pronunciation/

If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.
After trying the verses, a Frenchman said he’d prefer six months of hard labour to reading six lines aloud.
Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it’s written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation’s OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Fe0ffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won’t it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It’s a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

[WIP] Rangal

05 November 2011 - 02:26 AM

This is still a work in progress. This is my #2 character that I'll be bringing in a little bit later.

Name: Rangal (Rån Ghậl Thí)

Age: 27 years

Gender: Female

Team: Yet to be determined

Species: Mammalia Lagomorpha Kushibanidae Kushibani Sapiens.

English: Kushiban
Local Dialect: Wårơnvảrðnớn

Distant descendants of early lagomorphs introduced to their remote outer-rim homeworld (Kushiba in English, Wårơnvảrð in local dialect) some 55MYA via stargate by the gate builders, Kushiban were first discovered by humans (and consequently, shortly thereafter, numerous others) during the first human expedition to their particular stellar region during the early days of human interstellar travel. By this stage, Kushiban had a well established culture and society, technologically not dissimilar to humans immediately prior to their gaining interstellar capabilities. Kushiban were nicknamed as such by their first human contacts due to their superficial resemblance to the species of the same name from a popular 20th century story from Earth, but have a very different name for themselves in their native tongue (varying somewhat based on sub-dialect) - However, due to lingual incompatibilities between the Kushiban language and Human common tongue, the nickname stuck. Superficially, Kushiban look somewhat similar to rabbits, albeit, with a number of physical differences and unique traits that separate them distinctly from both modern rabbits and the species of their namesake, including - Rather than four rabbit-like paws, their forepaws are much more like (albeit furrier) human hands, with four nimble fingers and opposable thumb, nails instead of claws, and capable of both precision and power grip, whilst their backpaws are much more like cat paws, having four short toes with retractable claws; They have long, floppy ears, similar to rabbits; They bear teeth which, like rats, can break down, but grows indefinitely; Intelligent, focused, forward facing eyes, not dissimilar from that of humans; And a long, slendar, tail that extends an average additional length of 0.3M-0.4M (1"0ft-1"3ft) beyond their otherwise average height.

Small, intelligent and alert, compared to other common space-faring species, the Kushiban are extremely swift and nimble, a species ideally designed for flight rather than fight, designed to outwit and defeat their foes with intelligence rather than physical strength, in relation to other common space-faring species, of a weak and meagre physique, not known for their physical strength.

On surface appearances, Kushiban are entirely covered in a thick, furred pelt, ranging in various colours including white, brown, red, black and gray (common mammalian colours - exotic colours such as those seen in birds and not known to occur), but unlike the species of their namesake, their pelt is not mood sensetive, being more in-line with most other furred mammals.

Kushiban are predominantly herbivorous, preferring a vegetarian diet, but bear incisors and canines common to carnivores, and are both capable and known to eat meat on rare occasion. A genetically hardy species with a good constitution, though reaching full maturity around 16-18 and concluding reproductive cycle around 42-44, Kushiban are long-lived, reaching an average life expectancy of 75-80 years. Average height is 0.4M-0.6M (1"3ft-2"0ft).

Appearance: So far as Kushiban go, Ket is physically strong, well-built, tall, athletic and lithe, but considering the average standard for Kushiban, would still undoubtedly be smaller and weaker than most of his team members. His eyes are deep, bright, chitan orange, and his fur is entirely snow white. So far as attire goes, Ket tends to where light weight, simple, fairly utilitarian attire; The sort of things that he can move around in swiftly, efficiently and comfortably, but that help get the job done - Generally, the bare minimum. No particular notable features otherwise.

Background:

( In summary; Because no one wants to read a whole life story. )

Born natively on Kushiba/wårơnvảrð towards the end of "Pet-Slave Contraversy", Ket was seemingly born with a strong affinity for mechanics and a keen interest in what lay beyond his world. Studying earnestly and dilligently from a young age, this affinity quickly began to manifest into true ability. Towards the beginning of puberty, he discovered he had telekinesis, which led to a keen interest in these and similar abilities and further study. Eventually, seeking to see the rest of the universe, he boarded a ship in search of work on other worlds. He ended up landing various jobs in various industries over the consequent years, until eventually, he ended up on a particular world almost a year prior to his first meeting up with the Prometheus team - a world where the business he worked for at the time collapsed, the economy was in bad shape, and he became stranded. Long story short, food was scarce, and eventually, a group of locals turned their attention to Ket, seeing him as a potential short-term meal. When this happened, survival instincts kicked, he fled, ended up on the run for several months, and eventually managed to find an outbound ship, which, sneaking aboard, he hid on until he could leave. First stop, he left, snuck aboard a new ship, and repeated process. However, this ship ended up crash landing - By no affluence of his - On a world he knew nothing of, and he quickly found himself stranded once again. Travelling around for several weeks, staying where he could, doing what he could, and surviving in the usual manner that he did, one night, witnesses the crash of several craft which eventually leads to his meeting with the prometheus team.
