Ghosts and Glass

Name: Ghosts and Glass

Genre: Fantasy

Background: A peaceful group of planets faces a new, ghostly chaos. Someone calling themselves "Mirage" struck at several towns and cities, while ignoring others. The Mirage moves without a stated goal, his warpath seemingly chaotic. Where the strikes from is unknown, but the planets' system of portals renders chasing down Mirage difficult at best. Mirage's goal is unknown, as even the strongest outposts have been struck down.

Recently, a strike against a small, backwater town, Vyl'Isen, created a new situation from other Mirage strikes. A person, calling themselves the Champion, has risen against the Mirage. The Champion now heads to Caer Edor to recruit a group of warriors to take the fight to the Mirage.

Tag: [Fantasy|Action-Adventure]

RP List Descriptor: In a peaceful fantasy world, the Mirage creates chaos for unknown reasons. In return, the Champion works to exorcise the ghost that haunts the worlds.

A note regarding this RP: I will not be playing the unnamed champion. I will chose the unnamed champion based on quality of character reg, activity, and, potentially, other factors.

Steam and Mirrors

11 May 2012 - 11:16 PM

Name: Steam and Mirrors

Genre: Steampunk

Background: The world is at war, and losses expected. Out of the blue, a person, calling themselves "Mirage", started leading attacks on cities, towns, military outposts, and the like, doing only minor physical damage. Mirage claims to have no goal, and they seem to have held to that, only seeming to sow chaos and wreck morale.

For the last several years, Mirage's attacks have increased in ferocity and cause of collateral damage. Sometimes entire towns are destroyed, poisoned, or otherwise afflicted by the Mirage's presence.

A recent attack on a largely unknown river town, Vyl'Isen, had an unintended consequence: Someone who made it their sole goal to defeat Mirage. This "champion" set out to Pol'Daer to gather a group of skilled soldiers to fight this crusade.

Tag: [Steampunk|Adventure]

RP List Descriptor: In a steampunk world torn by war, a man claiming the title "Mirage" is adding to the chaos. An unnamed champion is taking the real fight to the illusory villain in an effort to get back at the ghost that haunts them.

A note regarding this RP: I will not be playing the unnamed champion. I will chose who is the unnamed champion based on quality of character reg, activity, and, potentially, other factors.

Also, to note, this RP is intended to replace SoG.

Edit: Increased vagueness of the hero's gender.

Kauon Raines

18 April 2012 - 12:05 AM

General Data -
  • Name: Kauon Raines
  • Species: Human
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 34
Profile Data -
Background: Born to a military family on the outpost planet Vantage, Kauon had a fairly normal life, with a small group of friends. He joined the Legion of Vantage, and served the usual term as a Shieldbearer among the Shield of Vantage Corps. After the seven year term, he transferred to the Sword of Vantage. His time among the Sword saw him accrue a list of contacts and allies that keeps with him. After showing bravery during an attack on a nearby pirate lair, his promotion to captain of a battle squad unit was fast-tracked.  According to Kauon, this event consisted primarily of "clawing my way from one mess to another, hoping my legs were still following me". Serves on and off as an instructor in the Legion, specifically, the Sword.

Appearance: His hair is a few shades lighter than black and his skin is fairly pale and his eyes are silver grey. Due to the heavy armor and helmet, he has few scars to speak of. Also, notably tall for a human.

Personality: Quiet, but observant, and constantly fiddling with his gear. Notably, has mad extensive modifications to his armor. Has a quiet energy about him. Known for a tendency towards being stoic.

Portfolio:
Combat Ready +++ (Ready to fight when called upon)
Efficient ++ (Conservative with his movements, making him deadly in combat, but slightly slower for it)
Steady ++ (Can fire and move with reasonable accuracy, and is extremely accurate when not moving)
Loner + (Works best alone, or with a small group)
Cooking (Only eat his cuisine if you are desperate)
Tactical ++ (Can plan on the spot, not great with long term plans)

Possessions -
Equipment:
Eiten Katana - A Vantage-crafted sword. Notably, it's actually a ceremonial blade. That said, it's still deadly in combat. Rather feared just about everywhere but Vantage. This particular katana has a shorter blade, favoring quicker strikes Uniquely, the "blade" is actually a super-heated, monomolecular strip of transparent diamond-hard material, surrounded by a holographic field, allowing both the user and his allies to know the blade is extended. This fact means that the weapon is not ideal for stealth missions.

Vantage Pulse Rifle - A standard Legion of Vantage firearm. It does less damage per shot, but its rate of fire is based on a sine wave. This extends the amount of of time the shooter can fire, as the weapon fires slower and generates less heat at a low point. When it reaches a high point, the weapon can put a lot of fire downrange. This also creates a highly accurate weapon, especially when fired from a stable position.

Vantage Heavy Shotgun - A weighty Legion of Vantage shotgun. Fairly accurate for a shotgun, it's deadliest at closer ranges, where, failing the shots hitting, its weight makes it a good bludgeon. It's shots are unique in that they are actually shards of metal flung out at high speeds. This limits the amount of shots, however, both as a safety feature to protect the wielder from injury, as well as a feature to prevent damage to the gun itself.

Vantage Grenade Launcher - A grenade launcher dealt only rarely to Legionnaires of Vantage, due to the high cost of the minifabricators, and the fact that the weapon's "ammo" is actually a small container of grenade material to feed the minifabricators.

Armor: Standard heavy powered armor for the Legion of Vantage. Can defend against most attacks, and is also created of separate and interchangeable pieces.

Notably can "lock" to defend against heavy damage and can fully seal along with a set of small air scrubbers, allowing for a few minutes EVA, underwater, or HAZOP duties, until it is necessary to replace the air scrubbers or carry an external oxygen unit.

Miscellaneous:
Advanced Communications Device: Standard equipment, essentially a smart phone grafted into Legion armor.

Fully-enclosed Helmet: Visor can display most of the data form the ACD, along with accurate targeting solutions and a readout on the location. This all falls under "suggestions", meaning the user has to act upon received data.

Precision Toolkit: Contains a precision drill and a series of bits for doing work on his weapons, armor, etc.

Duct Tape: Seriously. You can make rope with enough of this.

Additional Data: Being from Vantage means you get highly successful intimidation checks.

Evelyn Raines

11 April 2012 - 11:51 PM

Name: Evelyn Raines

Nickname(s): Ev(Only allows friends to call her this), Eve, Raines, Parade (hates this place on her name), Traitor (Given by Michael), Miss Raines

Sex: Female

Age: 29

Appearance: Tall, for a woman, with dark red hair and green eyes. Her VanSec armor is dark red and silver in color. Notably, it's also light armor, and bears the sigil of VanSec's skilled Operative Corps. No notable scars, and appears no younger or older than she actually is. Her armor is also in excellent condition.

Personality: To put it lightly, she is guarded and quiet, avoiding interacting with others outside of members of VanSec or, alternatively, members of the crew she is currently working with. She respects members of the Vanguards, but openly despises them as well, thinking them too haughty for their own good. She also has little inhibition about working with seedier elements when "needed". This has given her a notable list of contacts.

Background: Born, like all VanSec members, on Vantage, Evelyn Raines signed up for VanSec straight out of school. Spending the four requisite years in the Knight Corps, she chose to advance to the Operative Corps where she showed a particular aptitude for battlefield repair and support.

She spent a few missions with battle squads led by Vanguards, most of whom she instantly filed as "too haughty for their own good." Despite this, she does grudgingly respect them for their skill and dedication.

She also did a few "side missions" for extra cash on top of the battle squad bounties. While VanSec did not condone this, they formerly turned a blind eye to the activities. That is, until recently.

Raines had set up a deal with pirates on Whopter, betraying her battle squad and putting a ban on VanSec activities in Whopter's space due to extreme collateral damage to a town.

Even more recently, Raines assisted one Alexander Ribualt in the boarding, raiding, and destruction of a VanSec resupply freighter. Since then, VanSec High Command has put a bounty on Raines' capture, as well as withholding her access to VanSec resources, at least temporarily.

Weapons and Armour: Twin blaster pistols, a sub machine blaster, a light weight raiper-styled sparkblade. She also has a light-weight collapsible auto-blaster turret and an attack drone. Both are temporary emplacements, and require recharging via armor docks.

As for her armor, Evelyn has standard Ops Corps light powered armor.

Possessions: Carries nothing aside from a toolkit and a flashlight.

Other: The best traitorous combat engineer this side of Vantage.

Chapter III: Quid Pro Quo

06 April 2012 - 10:45 PM

Several days have passed since the attack on that fort. And now we've parsed that data. Turns out there's a traitor in Archive's ranks. I barely know the man and the fact that there's a traitor in his ranks makes my blood boil.

Maybe it's my history with Eiyou. Sent to a village to secure it for protection...

Turns into an Eiyou trap. Entire place went up in a fireball. Survived only because of my being back in the transport. I wonder what Archive's policy on traitors is...Perhaps it's more merciful than mine.

Maikeru looked up. The rest of the group argued over the data and what they wanted to do about or with it. He shook his head, then stood up.

"Look, we can argue about this data," Maikeru spoke as he gestured at a screen now displaying the aforementioned files, "or we can do something about it. Archive, there's a traitor within your ranks. Are you actually going to do something about him or her?"

Maikeru turned away from the faceless information broker and studied the data again. "Oh. We should shore up the defenses here, as well. Looks like we've got incoming Eiyou-men."
