As many of you are no doubt aware, the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) are at present making their way through the United States Congress. These bills would directly affect RPG Frontier, as it is hosted in the United States. A great many individuals and corporations believe that these bills will negatively effect civil liberties, free speech, the First Amendment rights of American citizens, Internet security, and economic innovation.

This site, run by the same folks who administrate the "Stop Censorship" banner you see at the top of RPGF, have urged websites to black themselves out with a protest code to protest the bill. This page would temporarily replace RPGF this upcoming Wednesday (18 January 2012), and we would be blacked out and unusable for most of the day (7:30 AM through 7:00 PM, EST). Upon the end of the blackout, RPGF would be usable as before. No damage will be inflicted, no data will be lost.

We believe that we must act with the approval of our memberbase in these situations and have put the issue to a public vote. RPGF's decision will be decided by a simple majority.
  • If the YES option wins a simple majority, RPGF joins the blackout and is unusable for one day as a result.
  • If the NO option wins a simple majority, RPGF makes no changes. No moves are made. The code is not applied.
  • If A TIE is reached, Nowe (as site owner) holds a tiebreaker vote. He cannot vote otherwise.
All (legitimate, not sockpuppet) members are eligible to vote, including all members of the Staff (with the exception of Nowe's unique role outlined above), and all votes are secret. We have no way to determine who votes for what and you do not have to state your preference here, though you may if you wish. Voting will end 16 January 2012 at midnight (EST), or when the admins unanimously determine everyone active has voted (and you trust us, right?).

I say yes. Though the constitution grants us certain rights, modern politicians and people seem to want to tighten the belt on our freedoms, so to speak.

Most definitely yes. This is totally against our rights as American citizens.

I'm for RPGF being part of the blackout. Just throwing in my two cents.

Yes. I think Congress doesn't realize what they're doing.

I bring great tidings!

SOPA has been struck down in the House. All we have to worry about now is PIPA.

Since an obvious conclusion has been reached, I'm closing this topic a couple hours prematurely. RPGF will participate in 18 January's blackout and I will direct Nowe to perform such feats of technical wizardry as he feels necessary to accomplish this.

Thank you all for your participation.
