"No. I'll move in first. Rei, bring up the rear. The lot of you...civvies...fall in line as you wish. After this, I don't think the term civvies will fit. You'll be rebels from here on out."

Maikeru pushed the door open, staying out of sight of the door way. No fire came out, no grenades. In fact, the hallway itself was quiet. "Huh. Unexpected."

Maikeru lead the group in to the HQ. It was quiet as well. "On your guard. This is...not what I expected."

Rei gritted her teeth and said nothing. She couldn't deny that the hacker was an asset to the team, but if he continued to mouth off she wouldn't be held responsible for her actions. The sniper nodded in assent to her captain's orders, keeping her gun at the ready.

The hallway was quiet, and Rei heard the captain speak softly from the front of the group. "On your guard. This is...not what I expected."

"With your permission, captain, I'll take a look around," she said in a low voice. "If there are any Eiyou personnel or traps in the room, I'll find them."

Archive had remained more or less silent throughout the rest of the escapade. Takuki's skill in hacking was remarkably impressive, even if it proved to have been wasted. He raised his rifle when ordered and followed the group into the HQ.

"Of course Eiyou wouldn't hold up at the door. They'd be expecting us to throw in a grenade," Archive explained in a low voice, barely a whisper. "I expect an ambush any second."

They kept passing cubicles. A man could hide inside with a shotgun, and that could ruin your entire day; and yet, each was empty. The tension in the air was terrifying.

Maikeru looked around. They just reached the end of the main passage way, and took the elevator up. The entire place was just as quiet.

:Unnerving, to say the least. I wonder...perhaps there's some foes here.:

The elevator slowed, stopped, opened and beeped. They arrived. No gunshots, no screaming, no grenades. Just the same eerie silence. Michael lead the group further, until they reached what had to be the main control room for the base. It was empty, aside from chairs, computers, and the other stuff you'd expect in an office.

"Takuki, see what you can get from that computer. Everyone else, search for bugs, traps, et cetera. Rei, you and I will cover the door."

Takuki nodded, cutting in front of the group with his weapon raised. Stopping in front of one of the terminals, Takuki lowered his guard, his Wakizashi still in hand. Turning on the terminal, Takuki began to search the computer for any relevant files. Scrolling through the ancient Hard Drive the computer used, Takuki noticed a disturbing lack of data. It was reset to factory default. Shouldn't they be smarter than this?

Looking through the recycle bin, Takuki found-- to no surprise -- a communique. Takuki should have taken the hint from the door's keycode. "They cleared out it seems. I've got a lot of data deleted and a communique. You may want to see this, Maikeru." Takuki said, waving the others over.

Maikeru walked over to the computer, studying the files quickly. He nodded. "Grab them and let's go. Archive, if you have the men, I'd lock down this base. We can use it to secure our hold in the Edge."

"Consider it done," Archive said. "I've got goons by the truckload, if I need them."

"Do it, then. Everyone else, we're heading back home now. No reason to linger here."

Maikeru lead the party to the trucks. Soon, they'd analyze the data, and find out what the communique was about.
