I'm sure my opinion won't be that surprising to most of you, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Here goes.

I can't stand this bill. It's an affront to free expression, the West's efforts to secure internet freedom abroad, the internet's infrastructure, the emerging internet contribution to the economy, and good sense. While I agree with the stated aims of the bill (to shut down foreign infringers), this is an absolutely terrible way of obtaining that goal. =/

Oh good, I almost thought this was posted because it had been passed.  Thanks for linking the infographic thing, since I signed the petition and wrote a letter.

The committee vote has been adjourned. The bill will not go to a vote immediately.

I'd like to put forward an idea: should RPGF adopt the "censor your website in protest" code elaborated upon on this page about a third to halfway down? Please note that it would not obscure post content or anything of the likes. Probably just banners etc. But I'd like us to look into it.

EDIT: Yeah it just puts a black box over the banner which links to the American Censorship website. Won't screw up our operations at all. Anyone in favour?

Might as well, if it doesn't break anything.

I'm in favour. Already signed up for a petition with Firefox via an E-mail, and I find it a wonderful movement. I don't know what Congress is thinking, but I hope all this opposition will brighten them up.

Hah. If it doesn't, well... At least we've got til their next session. Which, if I remember right, won't be until March.

I agree wholeheartedly with this movement. Unconstitutional congressional action is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!

Well if you ask me, The Constitution went too far.

Consider:  "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech...."

They should have simply stopped at "Congress shall make no law."

And now everyone knows why I love living in my not-republic. :D Anyway, I assume we're in favour of putting up the protest code?

We're thinking of ways to integrate the code at the moment, so if you see things go strange, just shut up and sit down, we know.

/ridicule.

No, in all seriousness, if it looks bad or needs changing, let us know.

Finished reading through it all earlier today. Took me a while to work up to posting a reply here, but I think I vented to at least two people in person about it before I got there.

My thoughts pretty much align with Red's here. If this passes, things will get very, very bad for the US and majority western components of the internet overall, and I dearly hope that this bill does not get passed.

That being said.. Government's are notorious for pushing things they want, even when they know it won't work and will harm them in the long run, if they've invested enough money into it. Will see what happens, I suppose.

If worst comes to worst.. I think I can find a few half-decent legally ambiguous website hosting companies based in remote parts of Asia and Northern Europe if need be */Half-Joke*.

Anyhow, yeah, I support adding the banner here - Always good to show the right support where warranted. :D

Petitioned and sent congress a letter.  This is just a bunch of bullshit and they need to realize it.
