I know, this is highly unlike me, but I feel that I must post this. This site is powered and kept running by IBM (meaning yes, it's safe), and I feel it to be a great and valuable resource. This "World Community Grid" uses your spare CPU time (be it laptop, desktop, or otherwise) to allow itself to essentially have a gigantic supercomputer to find things like cures to certain diseases and the like.

For those that do not want to or can not donate to red cross etc you can most certainly have these apps running in your computers background.
PS If you are going to set your CPU use to 100% make sure to check that your CPU fan/heatsink is not clogged with dust so as to allow overheating of the CPU. The WCG also has other great projects like fighting aids,the clean water project,help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, and of course a protein folding project.
