You know, with so much money in the market for older looking games such as side scrollers, RPGs, and games unique in their own right like Minecraft, I'd like a piece of the cake. I've thought about this for quite a long time now, but I want to make a video game, and sell it for around $3 on a mobile OS, likely android.

They don't have any good RPG's IMO, so I'm convinced that's what I want to do. Maybe even a 2-d Fighting game.

There's two major problems:

I don't know where to start.
I need a team of committed interested individuals who are interested in learning and figuring out how to make this happen. This is a project without a deadline, and who knows how long it'd take to make.

I guess I'll be honest, I'm doing it for my own entertainment and the money. I mean, if minecraft is selling more than 666,000 units on $20, I want in! Why not?

I'd love to help...

But I'm only good for ideas. Not anything particularly useful to you, I'm sure.

I'm down to allow anyone in. The [harder] more work you do, the more percentage of sales you get. I don't want 20 people giving Ideas though, I'm pretty good where storytelling and literature come in, so just two at max.

I'd be willing to help out with this project. What would we be using to make it?

Not sure yet. Likely will be starting from scrap. I'm hoping I can get Maikuolan in on this, he might know where to point us. I've been looking on Google, and that's probably how we'll do it. Learning ourselves, from scratch. Not glamorous, but should be fun.

I've used some RPG Maker software. I'm no good at coding dialogue or monsters, but I'm fairly good at balancing monster levels with character levels, as well as creating abilities. My main specialty is mapping.

I'm okay at creating a world, and the places, as well as lore. I've also used RPG maker extensively, but I've never finished anything completely. On another note, I have previously used Game Maker, but i'd have to look back over it again to get used to it again, if we would use it.

It's easy to make a game using those programs, I've used RPG Maker XP myself - but we're going all out here. It's going to be far from easy, so know what your getting into.

If there's ever a need for more people to work on this project once it gets started, I'd be willing to learn.  I have Gamemaker on my computer and it'd certainly be nice to get to know the ropes.

I think I'd be able to help too.  Since I could download gamemaker and give it a go.

If I set my mind to it, I could do the lore, and possibly parts of the story. I also have a friend (getting a bit ahead here) who could compose a soundtrack. I would be willing to contribute, thats for sure.

I haven't got many ideas as to what I could do to help, but I would enjoy doing so. Maybe when you get the game started, I could advertise? Get the word out about this game. Otherwise I'd be willing to help in other areas, if you'll have me.

I'll tentatively say that I'm all in.. And can probably offer a fair bit to getting a project like this off the ground and happening.. But I must stress that I don't think we're all giving enough credit to just how difficult it is to actually see a project like this to the finish line. I think doing something like this would be a great idea, so far as something for all of us to do together, but, I do think this would definitely be a long term project, and not something short by a long shot.

I've already got the Android development kit, required environment, software and compilers installed on my computer, so if we're talking about making an Android application, I could definitely help there. But, actually using all of that software might be another issue altogether.. Though I've got it, as of yet, I'm yet to make heads or tails of quite how it works and yet to really wrap my head around the language. That being said, I usually learn any given language by using it, and I'm sure I could learn it pretty quickly if I put my mind to it.

I'm in. But, I should suggest, if we want this to work, we should all be fairly sure we're happy to commit to it. Not trying to scare anyone off - I do honestly think it's a great idea - Just saying, it's a little harder than it seems on the surface. XD

I would definitely help with this, especially considering I'm taking graphic design for reasons of wanting to become a video game developer as my future career. However, I have college to dedicate my time and effort into, first and foremost - perhaps however, I can do a bit of conceptual art for the game, since of course that'd be needed.

But as Maik said, for us, this is a rather great undertaking... it'll take a lot of time, dedication, and effort. I can supply the dedication and effort, however time is unfortunately not on my side at the moment. If we can start this once Winter vacation rolls around, then of course I can participate much more too, and not only with art, I'm also open to actual lore making since I have a lot of experience in such things anyway (see Oracle's Mandate for proof, lol).

But right now I'm tied up with my social life and classes. I can't even afford to join another RP around here because I simply cannot find the time to post there....

I'd offer my support, however I'm not a fan of mobile gaming - I'd much prefer to build a game for a computer, mobile games are just kind of boring to me.

So I'm getting to the thread kinda late but I have made a video game completely by myself a couple years ago.  Granted it was a 3-D RPG and only had about 8 levels and one boss fight and was painfully buggy, I may be able to lend a hand in a couple fields.  I've never made a fighter though, that would be challanging.
