References to a certain other, Unknown character? Perhaps.... Kingdom Hearts, and a little Final Fantasy thrown in?

Actually he was inspired by No Face from Spirited Away.  I just added my own elements from a character  I created in 3rd grade.  And the name Auron...Ok THAT'S from Final Fantasy.

Seriously? A black hooded cloak, with white emblems? Need I say mansex?

When I was really little I created a character named Artholom.  He was a spirit who animated a cloak and wore a red mask to hide the fact that the cloak was empty.  And he wrote instructions on how to ressurect himself if her were to die on the cloak he wore.  Tis character is roughly based on him and a few others I made in class while I wasn't paying attention to how to properly finger paint, or whatever it is you learn in 3rd grade.

Also...The masked spirit in a cloak...reminds me of the Nazgul/Ringwraiths of Lord of the Rings.

Myself personnally, I loved Howl's Moving Castle. Now that was a good movie.
