On Neutrality

Though we are proud of our part in yesterday's wave of protests against SOPA and PIPA, our participation in this political campaign, however justified and approved by our memberbase, raises questions about the Frontier's neutrality in political matters which the administration would like to answer.

SOPA and PIPA are exceptionally threatening to the Internet, the Internet's infrastructure, and free speech. This cause is of extraordinary importance, and RPGF's administrators feel that the future made possible by these bills is horrible enough to make political action by ordinarily apolitical entities justifiable and necessary. Wikipedia, for example, has taken action against SOPA and PIPA despite its neutral point of view policy. Furthermore, RPGF is, as an entity based online, vulnerable to harm if this bill should pass. Even worse, we are hosted within the United States.

Under ordinary circumstances, RPGF does not support any particular country, state, or nation of any level of recognition, power, or status, and supports no particular political ideology, movement, organization, party, candidate or group. It is only in extreme circumstances and with the approval of a majority of our active memberbase that this rule is broken. Undeniable stupidity, however, can not be left unchecked, particularly when it threatens us and our future.

Incoming Downtime!

RPG Frontier will be down on 18 January, between 7:30 AM and 7:00 PM EST, in protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act and PROTECT IP Act, also known as SOPA and PIPA, two items of proposed American legislation which you can learn about here (a video) or here (text). Access will not be possible during this time. However, upon the end of the blackout, our operations will resume as normal. Backups have been downloaded in case of catastrophe.

After a community vote, the Frontier's members have agreed that these bills pose a threat to the free and open nature of the Internet, for Americans and many other people around the world. We have joined this blackout in solidarity with many, many other sites through this program. If you are interested in SOPA or PIPA, and why these bills are such a problem, you are again advised to read up on the issue here (a video) or here (text).

Redcoat's schedule

After some personal events that occured last night, relating to issues that have been going on for quite a while now, it has become evident to me that I will not be capable of sustaining the same activity schedule that the Frontier is used to seeing from me. This change is likely to be of a permanent nature. <del class='bbc'>Unfortunately</del> However, I'm not leaving and I'm not resigning. I will continue to administrate this site and my RPs to the best of my ability.

I thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

Important: Donations Drive

Dear Members,

As most of you are well aware, RPGF incurs various costs from time to time. At present, these fees, in United States dollars, are:

$9.95 each month for hosting on our present server, which is, as you'd imagine, necessary for the site to function.

$2.99 each month for a Pro Photobucket account, which hosts this site's images and is necessary for proper functionality.

$25.00 every six months for our Invision Power Services license, which allows us to upgrade the forum software and call in expert tech support. This expense is not entirely necessary but is a great help to our site's security and ease of use. It also makes poor Nowe's life easier. This expense is not due until August.

$16.99 each year to pay for our domain name (rpgfrontier.net). Without this we'd be inaccessible, except by some convoluted mess of a URL. Not entirely necessary, but makes everybody's life much, much easier. This expense does not come up until June.

Mods, hooks, or other add-ons from time to time, as the case may be. Nowe, by custom, discusses these add-ons with myself at a minimum, and the issue is occasionally referred to the memberbase as a whole. Please see the note about this in the paragraph after next.

Assuming a mods budget of $0 (which is probable), we have expenses of roughly $230 per year.

Because this site is, at time of writing, free of advertising, we rely on donations to meet these costs. At the moment we have two months' worth of reserves. However, we would prefer not to have a repeat of the donation drama that almost brought us down once before (PayPal error; nasty business). Any donations you make would be very appreciated. You can donate using the button at the bottom of the site, which will lead to this secure PayPal page. In addition, we can guarantee to our donors that their money is not being mis-spent by providing proof of this upon request. Here's an example.

Note that if you don't want your money to be used to purchase mods or add-ons which are not necessary for the site to function, you may append this as a note to your PayPal donation, or otherwise inform Nowe or myself of your intentions, and we will not ever spend your money on mods. That is a binding promise and we are prepared to present proof when asked.

Legal crap, because I like covering my ass: donors agree that, the above stipulation excepted, the donated money becomes the property of RPG Frontier upon you donating it. We may grant returns at our own discretion. Please remember that we're not out to get anyone, here. We're asking for your generosity.

In conclusion, we need money. We'd really appreciate some help in this regard.

Sincerely,
Redcoat

Edited RP Hosting Form

RP hosting form now requires you to make up a description for your RP so that it may be placed on our RP List. It also requires you to make up its tag for its main forum description. Nothing big, just wanted to mention these.
